TheoPay is the tool that Hope Scholarship account holders use to make purchases for goods and commodities from approved external websites using their Hope Scholarship funds. From the yellow TheoPay tile in the Hope Scholarship online platform, account holders download the TheoPay extension to add to their browser to enable the shopping experience. The browser extension looks like a small puzzle piece. Account holders can find the list of TheoPay-enabled websites directly from the red Marketplace tile in the Hope Scholarship online platform. When shopping on a Theo-Pay enabled site, the account holder must first log into the TheoPay Browser Extension (puzzle piece) before shopping like normal on the site. The account holder adds the desired items to the checkout cart on the website. Once they have completed shopping, the account holder uses the TheoPay browser extension to scan the cart for eligibility with Hope Scholarship qualifying expense limitations. When all items in the cart have been approved for purchase, the account holder submits the cart for fulfillment. Account holders do not actually check out and make purchases using their own credit card information – instead, the submitted order goes to the Hope fulfillment team who reviews the order and manually places the order for the requested items with the vendor and has the items sent directly to the student’s home.
Please note that TheoPay works the best when shopping on the Google Chrome browser on a laptop or desktop computer. Also, as a reminder, not every item sold on a TheoPay enabled site is a qualifying expense under the Hope Scholarship Program.
